* Ponyboy means that the socs were drunk. 

2.  What major event happens in this chapter? 

*The major event of this chapter is when Johnny kills Bob. 

3.  Look back at chapter 2, how did the author foreshadow that Johnny would use his knife? 

*Johnny would use his knife when he meet the socs- the boy that wears rings. 

4.  What would your advice be to Johnny and Ponyboy if they’d come to you for help instead of Dally?  Explain. 

* I would say that they have to armed themselves, bring a lot of money, and a map.

* the significance of this quote is that even though you are totally different with other people, you still see the same sunset.

2.Are the names Ponyboy and Sodapop nicknames?explain. 

*Ponyboy & Sodapop is a real name and nicknames. 

3.Who are Cherry and Marcia? 

*Cherry and Marcia are the socs girls. 

4.Why doesn’t ponyboy like referring to Sodapop as a dropout? 

*Because dropout makes Ponyboy wondering about some of poor dumb-looking hoodlum wandering the streets breaking out street lights-and that doesn’t fit Sodapop at all. 

5.   What is Ponyboy comparing Two-Bit to when he calls him a “chessy cat” on page 34?  What figure of speech is this besides a simile?

*Ponyboy compares Two-Bit smiles like a chessy cat smiles. Beside a smile, chessy cat can be a character (Cheshire cat) in “Alice in The Wonderland”.  

6.  What is “a weed” slang for in 1967?

*In 1967, “weed” is a slang for cigarette. 

7.  Why does Dally look sick now (p. 41)?

*Dally looks sick because he seen Johnny get hurt after get beaten up by his father.
